‘Niet lullen maar poetsen’ om je leven weer op de rails te krijgen

Niet naar school gaan, geen werk hebben en ‘s nachts in plaats van overdag leven. Voor Zeeuwse jongeren die met dit soort problemen kampen, start volgende week een nieuw hulpverleningstraject in Oostkapelle. Het motto van initiatiefnemers René en Emma de Pagter is: niet lullen, maar poetsen.

Een hart voor jongeren én een passie voor sport, spel en survival. Met de start van stichting Break Adventure komt een droom uit voor het Middelburgse stel.

Van vrijwilligers tot professionals

Emma de Pagter: “We zitten al twintig jaar in het jongerenwerk als vrijwilligers. Twee jaar geleden zijn we begonnen met het idee voor Break Adventure en nu is het zo ver. Op 10 oktober gaan we als professionals starten.”

René en Emma de Pagter doen niet alles met z’n tweeën. “We hebben een klein team om ons heen met bijvoorbeeld een outdoorinstructeur en een therapeut.”

‘Locatie is perfect’

De thuisbasis van Break Adventure is Oostkapelle. “Hier zijn we beiden opgegroeid. Bovendien is de locatie perfect om zo op het strand of in het bos te zijn.”

In Zeeland is Juvent de grootste aanbieder van jeugdzorg. Toch denken René en Emma de Pagter iets te kunnen toevoegen aan het huidige aanbod. “Ons concept is uniek en vernieuwend. Vastgelopen jongeren tussen de 15 en 23 jaar in een dagtrainingstraject van acht weken weer in het gareel krijgen door grensverleggende outdooractiviteiten.”

Klaar met praten

Ervarend leren is volgens het stel de sleutel tot een kentering in het leven van de vastgelopen jongeren. “Om in bokstermen te spreken: als je moe wordt, gaat je dekking naar beneden en dat is wat we willen. In de hulpverlening wordt héél veel gepraat. Onze doelgroep is vaak wel een beetje klaar met praten.”
